“Browntown has just always felt like this is where I belong. I love the stunning views, the wildlife, the people are friendly and caring, and there’s a slower pace in life,” says Martha Buracker, Realtor Sales Associate at Weichert Realtors in Front Royal.
“I can’t imagine living anywhere else,” she adds.
She’s not only a top salesperson, but also loves being part of the community, making sure she plays a large part in local life, especially in Browntown.
She’s a busy person!
As president of the Browntown Community Center, she works with local residents to organize the Redbud Festival in the spring, is on the board of the Humane Society, member of the board of the Blue Ridge Housing Network and treasurer of Warren County Builders Association.
All of these roles indicate her willingness to contribute to the fabric of the area.
Since she loves animals, “I’m there to support the shelter because the work they do is tremendous,” she said.
With the Blue Ridge Housing Network, she works to find ways to provide safe, decent and affordable housing for folks in the Northern Shenandoah Valley area.
“This is for low-income housing. If a new client needs help with closing costs assistance or other startup costs, the money is there in the housing organization to help,” she said.
Her family bought land here in 1962 to visit on the weekends from Prince George’s County Maryland. They moved here when her father retired in 1976 and Martha was still in high school. She liked the great change from a big school to the smaller WCHS, where she played on the girls’ softball team in the 1976 and 1977 seasons.
“In 1976 and 1977 We won District and Regional two years in a row. At that time that was as far as a girls’ team could go,” said Buracker. Forty-seven years later, the team was honored with an induction ceremony into the WCHS Hall of Fame on September 20, 2024.
In the years after high school, in her job at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection – Canine Training Center in Warren County, she was a K9 trainer with the dogs who went on to work in various local, state, and federal agencies.
Mother of four children and grandmother of four grandchildren, along with her real estate career, sheis a licensed contractor in the Buracker Construction business with her husband Dave.
“My background in construction helps in real estate and living in the area also helps,” she added. “I know the area well because I’ve lived here a long time and can help people find land to eventually build on or a house that they can eventually sell.”
“I feel like it’s best if people have a local person who can get them the best choice to make.”
Her business has been successful with personal referrals from clients and friends over the years.
