REC Communications team earns national recognition for excellence in storytelling and outreach

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s (REC) Communications and Public Relations team has earned national acclaim, bringing home eight awards for their work in digital engagement, storytelling, and member communication.

The honors include five Silver Awards from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) 2025 Spotlight on Excellence Awards, which recognize the most effective and creative communications efforts by electric cooperatives nationwide. REC was recognized in a range of categories including best short-form video, digital engagement, and social media.

In addition, the Cooperative Communicators Association (CCA) awarded REC three honors in its 2025 Communications Contest, which highlights excellence in storytelling, video, and project promotion across cooperative industries in North America.

“These awards are a testament to the passion and talent of our team,” said Casey Hollins, Managing Director of Communications and Public Relations. “Every campaign, every video, every story is created to strengthen the connection between REC and the communities we serve.”

The team’s projects ranged from uplifting stories of storm recovery to creative digital content and outreach initiatives aimed at educating and engaging members.

REC serves approximately 182,000 electric connections across 22 counties in Virginia, maintaining over 18,000 miles of power lines from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay.
