FRONT ROYAL, Va. — The Youth Services Department at Samuels Public Library has announced a full schedule of children’s and teen programs for August 2025, including story times, science experiments, music sessions, crafts, outdoor activities, and teen events.
Events begin Saturday, Aug. 2, with “Mr. Mike’s Great Big Balloon Show” at 2 p.m. This marks the end of the library’s summer reading program, and children are encouraged to log their reading and claim their final prizes.
On Aug. 6 and 7, story times will feature a watermelon theme and include visits from a special guest from the Elks, who are sponsoring the summer reading events and prizes.
Other highlights include:
Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. – Wild About Wind: Toddlers Trails, a nature walk and wind chime activity at Burrell Brooks Jr. Park for ages 2–5 (registration required). Aug. 9 at 2:30 p.m. – Teen Chess for ages 11–18. Aug. 11, 18, and 25 – Music & Movement classes for babies and toddlers at 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. Aug. 12 and 19 – Elephant Toothpaste chemistry experiments and stories for homeschoolers ages 6–11 at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Aug. 20 and 21 – Story times with a cookie theme at 10:15 and 11 a.m. Aug. 23 at 2:30 p.m. – Teens Connect Movie Day featuring “Weathering With You,” with popcorn and drinks provided. Aug. 26 at 10:30 a.m. – Water Balloon Density: Homeschool Hub, a hands-on science program for ages 6–11, with a warning: you may get wet. Aug. 27 and 28 – Story times with a Cats & Dogs theme, including Read with the Sheriff on Wednesday.
