Warren County deputies apprehended one suspect and are still searching for another following a high-speed pursuit that began in Rappahannock County and ended in Front Royal early Monday morning.
Around 4:40 a.m. on August 4, 2025, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) was alerted by the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) about a red pickup truck that had refused to stop for deputies and was speeding north on Zachary Taylor Highway. As the pursuit entered Warren County in the Chester Gap area, WCSO deputies continued the chase.
Within minutes, deputies successfully deployed tire deflation devices. The suspect vehicle continued into the Town of Front Royal and eventually stopped in the 800 block of North Commerce Avenue. Both occupants fled the scene on foot.
After a short chase, passenger Marquan Williams, 29, of Ohio, was captured near Happy Creek adjacent to Fantasyland Park. The driver, Joshua Shayne Paterson, 28, also of Ohio, fled into a nearby wooded area and remains at large. Authorities issued a shelter-in-place alert through the RAVE® system for residents in the area.
Despite assistance from the Fairfax County Police Aviation Unit and a WCSO bloodhound team, Paterson was not located. He is described as a Black male, 6 feet tall, weighing 219 pounds, with black dreadlocks possibly tipped with blonde, and brown eyes.
Paterson faces five felony charges and one misdemeanor from Albemarle County Police, along with additional charges from other jurisdictions. Williams, who was booked at the regional jail, was served with an outstanding Albemarle County warrant and is also facing multiple charges in other locations.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who may see a person matching Paterson’s description to call 540-635-4128 or contact local law enforcement.
Authorities expressed thanks to the Front Royal Police Department and the Fairfax County Police Department for their swift support during the incident.
