Front Royal, Va. — Valley Pharmacy, the retail pharmacy located at Warren Memorial Hospital, will close July 1 as part of Valley Health’s ongoing response to more than $80 million in federal funding reductions.
Valley Health said the decision also reflects low utilization and sustained financial losses at the retail pharmacy over time. Despite efforts to maintain the service, the number of prescriptions filled locally has not been enough to support continued operation.
Patients may transfer prescriptions to any pharmacy of their choosing. Valley Pharmacy staff will assist patients with prescription transfers through June 30. Patients are encouraged to call or visit the pharmacy before July 1 for assistance. The pharmacy can be reached at 540-635-0736.
After July 1, all remaining prescriptions with active refills will automatically transfer to Valley Pharmacy in Winchester, which offers both in-person pickup and mail delivery options.
Retail pharmacy services remain widely available throughout the Front Royal and Warren County area, Valley Health said.
According to Valley Health, closing the retail pharmacy will allow Warren Memorial Hospital to repurpose the space for essential clinical services that directly support hospitalized patients and preserve access to care that only a community hospital can provide.
“We recognize that healthcare decisions carry deep meaning in this community,” Valley Health said in its announcement. “Warren Memorial Hospital remains committed to Front Royal and Warren County and is focused on sustaining essential hospital-based services today and for the future.”
