FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — John D. Hewa, President and CEO of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) and current chair of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) Board of Directors, has been reappointed by Governor Abigail Spanberger to continue serving one of Virginia’s most important statewide economic-development authorities.
Hewa has been reappointed to a new four-year term after first being appointed to the VEDP Board of Directors by former Governor Glenn Youngkin in August 2022. The announcement of Hewa’s reappointment was made on August 10 as part of the Governor’s press release of board appointments across the Commonwealth.
“Serving alongside this accomplished group of leaders over the past four years has been an honor and privilege,” said Hewa. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue our work to strengthen Virginia’s economy and ensure that the needs of communities across the Commonwealth remain at the center of our decisions.”
VEDP’s Board of Directors is responsible for working with the agency’s staff to develop, implement, and update strategic and marketing plans for the Commonwealth and oversee the organization’s operational plan. With Hewa’s reappointment, he will continue to contribute valuable energy and member-focused electric cooperative perspective as he works with other members of the Board of Directors and VEDP’s leadership and staff to create the best economic development opportunities for Virginia.
