SamiCon is a place where you’re free to imagine and free to explore! As we celebrate 11 years of SamiCon, journey to realms far beyond our own through outer space! Step into a world of imagination, creativity, and community at SamiCon — a celebration of comics, manga, anime, technology, and pop culture!
Explore everything the Library has to offer, from innovative tech and gaming resources to interactive databases and creative programs. Throughout the day, you’ll find:

Sewing 101

New to sewing? Sewing 101 is the perfect introduction for beginners to get comfortable with a sewing machine using our SINGER® Heavy Duty 4411 Sewing Machine. Learn how to thread, wind a bobbin, use an owner’s manual, and identify key machine components. We will create a simple project using basic stitches that you can take home. Registration required.
Bad Romance

Phoenix Project- Hope For New Beginnings

Serving all members of the Front Royal/Warren County community who have experienced or are currently experiencing domestic violence or sexual assault, Phoenix Project Advocates are available to provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling, safety planning, information, education, and more. Their services are free, confidential, and trauma-informed. Hope. Help. Healing.
Step It Up: Line Dancing! Beginner Session 4

Join us for some fun with Step It Up: Line Dancing! This is our beginner friendly class where we will teach you beginner moves and dances. Whether you’ve never line danced before or want to learn something new, this class is for you! The Beginner classes will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from June to September. Comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes are recommended.

Lighting Matters: An Introduction to Light Pollution and Night Sky/Nightscapes Conservation

Artificial light at night is essential to our lives, communities, and society. But indiscriminate, excessively bright, and badly designed lighting degrades ecosystems, imperils wildlife, wastes energy, and fails to deliver on promises of improved safety and security while also eroding our own health. What do we lose when we obliterate the stars from the night sky and drive a naturally dark night to near extinction? This presentation will explore the causes and consequences of light pollution with a focus on wildlife and ecology, explain the basics of responsible outdoor lighting, deliver good news about nightscape conservation, and equip the audience to bring back the night beginning at home. Because every day needs a night.
Laura Greenleaf has led the Virginia chapter of DarkSky International (formerly the International Dark-Sky Association) since 2013. She has delivered approximately fifty presentations, supported advocates in their own communities, aided Dark Sky Park efforts, and assisted policy initiatives. She coordinates the Virginia Responsible Streetlighting Coalition to advocate for better products and practices in Dominion Energy’s lighting division.
Laura is a lifelong conservation advocate, a Virginia Master Naturalist, and the founder of the James River Park System Invasive Plant Task Force. She grew up in Clarke County and lived in the northern Piedmont until moving to Richmond in 2007. She continues to steward her family’s land on the Blue Ridge, and she serves on the board of Friends of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She lives near the James River in Richmond with her family.

Each month will feature a stand-alone topic, including organizing photos, scanning and digitizing your media, and sharing your collections with family. Step It Up: Line Dancing! Advanced Session 4

Take your line dancing skills to the next level with this Advanced Line Dancing session! Tried the beginner class and looking for more? Feel comfortable in your dancing abilities and looking to challenge yourself? Then this is the class for you! In these sessions we will cover faster-paced songs, more complex moves, and wider range of dances. The advanced classes will take place every 4th Tuesday of the month from June – September. Comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes are recommended. Prior line dancing experience is recommended but not required.

Sewing 201 Fall Harvest Flag

Medicare Open Enrollment Bootcamp

Medicare Open Enrollment is coming soon- from October 15–December 7. Dawn Kennedy from Seniors First, The Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging will be presenting.
This workshop is to help Medicare beneficiaries understand what they should review before Open Enrollment, common mistakes to avoid, important changes that can affect coverage and costs, and resources available to help them make informed decisions about their Medicare coverage.
The presentation includes:
• What Medicare Open Enrollment is and who should review their coverage
• Common changes that can impact costs and benefits from year to year
• How to prepare before comparing plans
• Warning signs of Medicare scams and fraud during enrollment season
• Free counseling resources available through VICAP

Thru-Hiker Panel: The Appalachian Trail

Join us in welcoming some local Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers as we hear from them about their experiences on the trail and what led them to complete this journey. Come listen to the stories about how they received their trail names (because you don’t get to choose your own)! We will kick the session off by asking some questions to let the audience hear from each hiker- and then there will be time for the audience to engage and ask questions.
