WARREN COUNTY, Va. — The Warren County Sheriff’s Office will increase impaired-driving patrols and conduct a DUI checkpoint as part of a nationwide enforcement campaign ahead of Labor Day weekend.

The effort is part of Saturation Saturday, a coordinated initiative involving law enforcement agencies in Virginia and across the country in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving Virginia. It is also part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. 

Deputies are expected to focus on major travel corridors through Warren County, including Interstate 66, U.S. 340, U.S. 522 and Route 55. The Sheriff’s Office said the increased enforcement is aimed at roads that typically carry heavier holiday traffic into and through the county. 

The department also announced plans for a DUI checkpoint somewhere in Warren County as part of the weekend enforcement effort. The release did not identify the checkpoint location. 

Sheriff Crystal Cline said impaired driving is preventable and warned that deputies will be actively looking for drivers who are under the influence.

“Our deputies are committed to keeping our roads safe and holding impaired drivers accountable,” Cline said. 

The Sheriff’s Office cited 11 traffic deaths during Virginia’s 2025 Labor Day holiday period and said more than half involved drunk drivers. 

Officials are urging people who plan to consume alcohol, marijuana or other impairing substances, including some prescription medications, to arrange a sober ride home before going out.
