I don’t go to many parties. When I do show up, I like to be on time.
That wasn’t the case this time.
I was late.
Very late.
After placing our order in the drive through, Jose the cashier said “Welcome to the party pal!”
Well, not really, but it would’ve been cool if he had.
That line is from one of my favorite movies. Die Hard.
And if anyone cares what I think about the ongoing debate surrounding the 1998 film, I’d say it’s not a Christmas movie.
Earlier that morning, when I looked online to get the restaurant’s address, I decided I’d take them up on their invitation.
I told my wife at breakfast.
I was going to the ‘chicken and waffles sandwich’ party.
I’d never had chicken and waffles before.
Separately, of course. But not as a single entrée.
The thought of a piece of chicken sitting on my waffles always sounded kind of weird to me.
But on that particular morning, for whatever reason, I was going to try something new.
Get out of my comfort zone.
We were headed out shortly for an errand and a doctor’s appointment. We’d stop for an early lunch at a Chick-fil-A® spot we’d not been to before.
The party was advertised on their site.
A Chicken & Waffle sandwich, for a limited time.
It’d been going on for a while. I’d seen the commercials.
It sounded like it might be good.
And it was.
It was a great party!
I wished I’d gotten there sooner.
The bun was two maple-flavored waffles. They looked like their waffle French fries, only bigger.
And that maple flavoring? Delicioso!
Of course the chicken was good as usual.
They even give you a little container of syrup to put on it as well.
Talk about a disaster waiting to happen, especially when you’re eating in your car. I saved that for another time. When I’m at home enjoying Eggo® waffles for breakfast.
One week later, we were back again.
I tried to convince my wife to join me.
She declined but did take a bite of mine.
I think she might go to the party next time.
She can be my plus-one.

The author and his wife typically watch Die Hard during the holidays. Even though it’s not a Christmas movie.
